Today's above average temperatures here in the UK were no doubt a boon to anyone travelling to visit friends and relatives, or taking a holiday. America has not been so lucky.

But how was it around the time when they say Jesus was born? Was it midwinter like some carols say, earlier in winter as the December 25th celebration suggests, or in warmer months as seems likely with shepherds being out watching their sheep by night, the magi starting out and (according to Luke) people travelling for a census?
