Beware, Britain!
Whether Trump's administration succeeds or fails, its evangelists will turn their sights on Britain and Europe.
Donald J. Trump is making himself, and therefore his sycophants, very unpopular with some Americans. His tariffs and other economic policies and uncertainties are already harming the economy for many people and businesses, the shutdown is beginning to bite (and he has not succeeded in getting everyone to blame the Democrats), and health insurance premiums are about to double, with millions likely to lose healthcare.
Republicans have poked great holes in the safety net, and more and more people are falling through them. More and more federal workers are losing their jobs.
In stirring up division and violence using racism and ICE, he and his band of not-so-merry men are stirring up more protest against his government, too. They are racking up a lot more law suits against them and committing many crimes against the constitution and the people. Even if Trump’s crazy ‘immunity’ prevails or he dies before he gets his just deserts, his sycophants are not immune. I just hope he does not get the chance to pardon them all, and that if he does, states will be able to make them accountable.
Democratic Party leader Hakeem Jeffries in a statement on the indictment of Letitia James on 9th October stated:
“Sycophants who aid and abet the President’s vengeful schemes will not be able to hide from the serious legal consequences of their behavior. They will be held accountable.”
Early Republican opponents of Trump like Liz Cheney have already been purged from the Republican Party, but recently there have been some more cracks in the wall, for example Marjorie Taylor Greene speaking out on the health care issue. Thomas Massie, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Nancy Mace and Lauren Boebert backed the discharge petition. Rand Paul and Lisa Murkowski voted against letting Trump and the rest of their party continue to strike alleged drug-carrying boats off the coast of Venezuela. Some voted against Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ or did not vote. The Republican governor of Oklahoma spoke out against Texas sending troops to Chicago. Ted Cruz objected to the treatment of Jimmy Kimmel. Some MAGA feel betrayed by Trump’s giving Qatar an Air Force Base in the US or his failure to release the Epstein files.
Public figures who disappoint the MAGA base have already been assassinated, or assassination attempts made, and not by left wingers either: Charlie Kirk was killed by someone who’d had enough of his anti-trans rhetoric. The motive of the would-be assassin of Trump in Pennsylvania is unclear but he was a registered Republican. The would-be assassin of Trump in Florida had expressed disappointment in Trump, for whom he said he had voted.
Are the rats about to desert a sinking ship?
According to Democratic rep. Eric Swalwell, Republicans may well revolt when the Epstein files are revealed. And if Trump takes ever more extreme measures to distract from or prevent their release, then those measures will cause more people to revolt, as will voter dissatisfaction with the worsening economy.
Right wing blogger Curtis Yarvin has already written that he feels that he has “to start thinking realistically about how to flee the country”. While some may feel assured that they will be pardoned, others may not be so sure.
So, where will they go?
These people are ideologues and/or power hungry, and I can’t see many of them tamely going into retirement in Russia or another friendly (to them) country. The techbros have massive fortunes and truly international companies and could live comfortably anywhere, but they will likely want to go somewhere they can continue using their influence and where they speak the language. Canada is not likely to be all that welcoming, smaller countries are likely to be of less use to them. That leaves Australia and the UK. My concern is the UK. The UK has been primed for them by Rupert Murdoch, Nigel Farage, the Conservative Party and Russia. Elon Musk has already made his presence felt. He’s already on his third citizenship, so what’s one more? Labour seems unlikely to put up much resistance.
Heads of other industries have also spread their tentacles in the UK. For example, Peter Thiel’s Palantir is involved in many essential British systems, including the NHS. Peter Thiel has stated that “the NHS makes people sick” and that “I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible.”
GB News is already trying to do what Fox News did in America. It’s just added a new show to spread its vile misinformation here. Ofcom appears to be useless against it.
Many conservative politicians have close ties to the American right wing think tank the “Heritage Foundation”, and travel to America to give speeches at CPAC. The foundation is looking more and more towards Europe.
The confederates lost the American Civil War, but they are still with us. Free enterprise has failed in country after country, yet they keep trying. Just because project 2025 fails in the USA, does not mean that they will give up. They will try again elsewhere, and that elsewhere may well include Britain.
And if the Trump administration does not fall, then the people behind it will look to repeat their success elsewhere. And that elsewhere will likely include the UK.
So, either way, lovers of democracy in the UK need to be alert to the danger. To be ‘woke’.
And maybe we should all get frog suits.

Ohh sister 😩 it just keeps getting worse doesn't it?!! Excellent piece today, and I too worry for our alliance with the UK, we're all in troubled waters... October 18th couldn't come fast enough. I'm feeling froggy 🐸 and optimistic. Thank you, have a great Sunday afternoon, and will reStack ASAP 🙏
