So, Trump has unequivocally shown his contempt for international law, just as he had already shown his contempt for American law, by committing an act of war against Venezuela.
Audra above suggests, “If global power is being enforced mafia-style, then new alliances and new rules aren’t radical, rather necessary.” Audra is one hundred percent correct. Leaders around the world need to stop sleepwalking into a rerun of the 1930s and 1940s. Trump is no longer a wannabe fascist dictator, he is one, complete with a supporting entourage of evil, despicable, sick, strategists, that have mastered pulling his useful idiot puppet strings and manipulating his every waking moment.
If he was, he wasn’t in Trump’s league and he didn’t have Tech Bros frying people’s brains with social media platforms prepping the masses for disinformation. Advantage: Team Trump.
It’s a good question, but there isn’t a straightforward answer. Our recent election in October still hasn’t produced a leading coalition, and the Netherlands works closely with NATO to keep protocols intact.
For now, official responses are focused on legal reasoning, but that process takes time. The Dutch are known for polder modeling, and as a very tolerant society, they tend to avoid sudden or unilateral moves.
That said, money and resources are still being sent to Ukraine, so shifting budgets will take a while.
And frankly, if we’ve reached the stage where abducting presidents from their beds is treated as a norm, we’re no longer dealing in diplomacy. It is intimidation. At that point, old alliances stop looking strategic and start looking complicit. If global power is being enforced mafia-style, then new alliances and new rules aren’t radical, rather necessary.
I don’t think a lot of people will remain passive. Resistance at all levels will blossom and the fruits of the various authoritarian regimes will fall on infertile ground. The price to pay will be huge for all countries. If we let a few stupid, ignorant men destroy the world as we know it….it is our lack of action to blame.
Some countries are better at protesting that others, for instance France, where far more people are in unions, and those unions organise strikes and protests. So even those who focus on unionisation are helping to fight fascism. So, perhaps those who dare not protest ICE, for example, could switch to that instead.
You are absolutely correct Sue. This is the Heritage Foundation and Putin controlling the strings of the puppet. Trump is too demented and stupid to be aware let alone doing strategic planning. Whenever he posts something with big words, I know he didn’t write it. He couldn’t possibly come up with anything over a third grade level. The very real damage continues to be the far Right ownership of all of our major news conglomerates. Shockingly, plenty of stupid and racist people fall for it. Idiot country!
ICE is getting roaring anger from the public and I love to see it. New Yorkers pelted them with icy snowballs. Made me smile!
This is the year for the fascists to be removed in any way possible.

There's nothing new under the sun.
But I wonder, was Hitler a serial liar?

Welllll, i was happy to write something neutral, yet punchy. But it seems James summarized what i really wanted to say quite nicely 🎯
In solidarity as an American Dutch national, and from Holland 🇳🇱❄️
Is the Netherlands ready to defend the Dutch Caribbean if necessary?

Democracy has a short shelf life if “ We The People” don’t maintain Our Focus?
Indeed. We are Atlas.

The world has witnessed and stood up against this type behavior Twice WWI and WWII. “We The People can and Must stand up again.
I feel sorry for the WW2 survivors who have lived to see it happening again.
I couldn’t agree more.
Thank you,Sue, for sharing Professor Christina Pagel's article this morning ☕ fascinating to say the least 🤓 and will reStack ASAP 🙏
You're welcome. It was that article that made me think it was worth writing about the threads I had been thinking about.

I'd like to see Trump in a snowball fight.
